Top Tips for Packing for a Holiday with Kids

So you've booked your holiday and you're heading off soon? But it was difficult enough to decide what to pack in that suitcase before you had children wasn't it? But now you've got added worries of packing too much or too little or forgetting that all important thing.

Holiday packing

Well we’ve asked some of the moms and dads we know, to bring together some of the top tips for packing for a holiday with kids. Here they are…

1/ Don’t overpack! Capsule is the way forward!

Sounds obvious doesn’t it? But we all tend to worry and pack too much, then end up not wearing half of it. After all, don’t forget, if it’s hot, chances are your little ones will just be in diapers or shorts anyway. So try to capsule both your wardrobes and your kids, so that you’ve got essential items like shorts, tees & skirts, all that match eachother. Pack outfits, not individual items, this will help!

2/ Take Snacks!

This one is particularly apt if you are travelling by plane and with younger kids and need something to distract them in those tedious hours of waiting. For babies, pack formula, snacks or whatever you need to keep them fed and distracted. For older kids, pack healthy dry snacks that are easy to throw in your carry-on luggage.

3/ Keep the bedtime routine consistent!

We all know it’s hard to keep napt imes and bedtime routines when we’re away from home, but if you pack a few essentials to keep things familiar for your little one, it’ll help when you just want to get them down and have a few hours of “me time”. So if they are used to having that special snuggle-buddy, make sure you don’t forget it! Or do they have a favorite bedtime story? Make sure it’s packed!

4/ Roll, don’t fold!

This is an oldy but goody and a great space-saver when you’ve got lots of people to pack for. Instead of folding all of your clothes and towels etc, roll them nice and tight and wedge them in! You’ll definitely get more in that way.

5/ Don’t worry!

Take the pressure-off and remember, that unless you’re headed on a trip to the Arctic or the outback of Australia, then chances are, you can probably buy most things you need when you get there! So don’t fret, just enjoy your holiday.
